Certified Dietary Managers (CDM, CFPP) specialize in providing optimum nutrition care through foodservice management in hospitals, long-term care, schools, correctional facilities and other non-commercial foodservice settings. Students completing the dietary manager program are set to immediately enter the Associate in Science (AS) degree program and have the opportunity to transfer to a Bachelor of Science program.
What Barton Offers:
Dietary Manager Certificate
(16 credit hours)
- Courses in sanitation, foodservice management, nutrition, and human resource management. (Courses offered ONLY online.)
- Program offers 120 hours of classroom studies and 150 hours of field experience.
- Students must be authorized by a healthcare facility and Registered Dietitian to complete the field experience.Field experience materials are offered online but actual field experience hours must be completed in a local healthcare facility.
- Students are eligible for the Association of Nutrition and Foodservice Professionals (ANFP)student membership.
- Students must submit a high school transcript or GED information to complete the certificate.
- Students completing the certificate are eligible to take the national certification exam and become an active member of ANFP
Associate in Science with emphasis in predietetics or dietary management
- Coursework in general education and life sciences to meet associate degree requirement and provide a foundation for the Bachelor degree.
- Dietary management emphasis includes dietary manager courses. AS may transfer to a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics or Technology Management for those with business interest.
- Predietetics emphasis is offered for those who are new to the field of dietetics or do not meet the field experience requirement. This emphasis is also set up for transfer to the Bachelor of Science in Dietetics.
Partnership with Kansas State University (KSU) Bachelor of Science in Dietetics
- Associate in Science degree fulfills the first two years of the Bachelor of Science in Dietetics offered by Kansas State University.
- Seamless articulation agreement to ensure that students are taking the correct courses for transfer.
- Academic advising for students at both Barton and KSU.
- Registered Dietitians (RD) are professionals who translate the science of food and nutrition to enhance the well-being of individuals and groups.
- Students completing the Associate in Science degree at Barton can pursue a Bachelor degree in a business related area through the KSU Technology Management program.
- Lecture courses available 100% online and offered at anytime, day or night.
- Dietary manager field experience courses may be completed at current work facility.

- Foodservice manager jobs are expected to grow 5% through 2018. Job opportunities will increase due to growth as well as the need to replace managers as they leave the occupation.
- Median annual earnings of salaried Certified Dietary Managers were $39,605 in October 2010.
- Employment of dietitians is expected to increase 9% through 2018 with job growth resulting from an increasing emphasis on disease prevention through improved dietary habits.
- Median annual earnings for dietitians were $50,590 in May 2008.
